Our slight over obsession with brunch at Maialino

After reading an incredibly emphatic review on SeriousEats about a month ago, we walked over to to Maialino in Gramercy Park Hotel.  Apparently its an incredibly popular dinner spot, but supposedly a hidden (albeit somewhat expensive) find.  And I guess we agree- after that morning we’ve found ourselves eating brunch there twice more this month, easily the quickest we’ve returned to the same restaurant that I can remember (well, maybe besides Dos Toros).

So what’s awesome about it?  My favorites:

  • Ricotta pancakes with peach compote (Cooked with the right balance of fluffy and crisp)
  • Bomboloni with cream
  • Thick cut black pepper bacon (like thick strips you get at a steakhouse, not the usual diner side-order)

Angela’s favorites:

  • Raviolo al uovo
  • Toffee glazed brioche (one of her favorite pastries ever)
  • Sausage with pecorino & spinach

The truth is it might not be so expensive if we didn’t eat so much, but there are too many good choices.  We will definitely give dinner a try there some time soon.
